    Hi everyone,
Welcome to Learning English Pronunciation! In this web site you'll find all the resources necessary to learn or improve your English Pronunciation. Besides, this wiki can contribute with different ideas for teachers to incorporate the English Pronunciation in their lessons.
As English has become a global language used for commercial, touristic and communication, teaching students the English pronunciation is a vital element for effective communication. In this line, Mark and Bowen (2012, p. 7) state the importance of pronunciation that Yeats wrote in his poem “I made it out of a mouthful of air” to explain that any piece of spoken language begins at the mouth and that anyone can speak without pronouncing,
. . . every word we utter, every conversation we have, every speech we make, results from modifying and shaping that mouthful of air, blocking it at various points challenging it in various directions and expelling it in various ways- an amazing example of doing a lot with minimal resources! Every piece if written language, too- every email, every treaty, every poem, every novel – is a representation of these processes, and can be converted back into air if we breathe life into it by reading it aloud.
Pronunciation, although so often neglected by teachers, syllabuses and coursebooks, is fundamental to language – Who could speak without pronouncing?
Accordingly, as pronunciation is a crucial element in effective communication, teachers should be aware that learners cannot interact with any person if they are not taught how to pronounce, if they are not aware of the limitations that they will have to communicate in the second language if they do not learn pronunciation.
    Love,
    Prof. Carina Ortiz
